AYYUB ﷺ

The Story of Ayyub ﷺ

Allah blessed Ayyub ﷺ with wealth, family and good health, but He later tested him with great hardship. Ayyub ﷺ lost his wealth, his family and his health, and his suffering continued for a long time. Yet despite everything he experienced, he remained patient and never turned away from Allah.

Ayyub ﷺ did not allow his suffering to make him lose faith. He knew that Allah was aware of his pain and that only Allah could bring him relief. When his hardship became overwhelming, he turned to Allah and supplicated:

“Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.” (Quran 21:83)

His du'a was simple and full of humility. He did not complain against Allah or question His wisdom. He acknowledged his suffering while placing his trust in Allah's mercy.

Allah answered his supplication and relieved his hardship. He commanded Ayyub ﷺ to strike the ground with his foot, and a spring of water appeared for him to drink from and bathe in. Allah restored his health and blessed him with his family and more besides.

Allah says:

“Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back to Allah.” (Quran 38:44)

The story of Ayyub ﷺ teaches us that patience does not mean that hardship will always disappear quickly. Sometimes a test may continue for a long time. What matters is how we respond while we are waiting for relief. Ayyub ﷺ remained connected to Allah throughout his suffering and trusted in His mercy.

Lessons from Ayyub ﷺ

  • Be patient during hardship. Ayyub ﷺ endured a long period of difficulty without turning away from Allah.

  • Trust Allah's mercy. Even when his suffering was great, Ayyub ﷺ knew that Allah was the Most Merciful.

  • Turn to Allah when you are struggling. Ayyub ﷺ took his pain directly to Allah through du'a.

  • Do not assume that a difficult life means Allah has abandoned you. Ayyub ﷺ was greatly tested despite being a beloved and righteous servant of Allah.

  • Keep returning to Allah. Hardship can become a reason to draw closer to Allah rather than distance yourself from Him.

Daily Application

When you are facing a difficult period, remember Ayyub ﷺ. You do not have to pretend that hardship is easy. You can acknowledge your pain while still trusting Allah. Make du'a, remain patient and continue turning to Him. Relief may not come when you expect it, but Allah knows your suffering and hears every supplication. Keep trusting His mercy and never stop returning to Him.
