ZAKARIYYA ﷺ

The Story of Zakariyya ﷺ

Allah blessed Zakariyya ﷺ with faith, wisdom and a life devoted to worship and serving Him. He was a righteous prophet who cared for Maryam and witnessed the blessings Allah gave her. Although Zakariyya ﷺ was old and his wife had been unable to have children, he never lost hope in Allah's mercy.

Zakariyya ﷺ deeply wished for a child who would continue the work of worshipping Allah and carrying the message of righteousness. He knew that, from a human perspective, his situation seemed difficult. Yet he trusted that nothing was impossible for Allah.

He turned to Allah in private and made a sincere supplication:

“My Lord, do not leave me alone, while You are the best of inheritors.” (Quran 21:89)

Zakariyya ﷺ did not allow his circumstances to prevent him from asking Allah. He continued to make du'a with humility and hope, knowing that Allah hears every supplication.

Allah answered him and gave him the good news of a son, Yahya ﷺ. Allah says:

“So We responded to him, and We gave to him Yahya and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.” (Quran 21:90)

The birth of Yahya ﷺ was a great blessing and a reminder that Allah can bring about what seems impossible. Zakariyya ﷺ had waited patiently and continued to ask Allah, and Allah answered his supplication at the time He chose.

The story of Zakariyya ﷺ teaches us that we should never stop turning to Allah with our hopes and needs. Even when something seems impossible, Allah is able to change our circumstances. His story reminds us that sincere du'a should be accompanied by patience, humility and trust in Allah.
