The stages of the embryonic development

The Quran describes the stages of embryonic development in a manner that is remarkably accurate considering the time of revelation, being over 1400 years ago. The verses outline a sequence of stages, beginning from a drop of fluid, then a clot, then a lump, then bones developing within the lump, and finally, the creation of a fully formed human being.'

"And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators." - Quran 23:12-14

Pain Receptors

Pain receptors in the skin

The Quran reveal that there is a component in the skin which triggers pain, aligning with modern science's understanding of pain receptors. While it was previously believed that feeling pain was solely governed by the brain, recent findings reveal the existence of pain receptors in the skin, crucial for experiencing pain.

"Those who reject our Signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire: as often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise." (Quran 4:56)

Decision Making

The Prefrontal Cortex is where our decisions are made

Scientific studies have shown that the prefrontal cortex of the brain plays an important role in decision-making, including the decision to tell lies. Research on pathological liars has found that they may have more white matter and less grey matter in the prefrontal cortex than other people. fMRI scans have also shown increased activity in the prefrontal cortex when people lie. Although the function of the frontal lobe was not scientifically understood until the 19th century, the Quran had already referred to this part of the brain more than 1,400 years ago.

"No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - A lying, sinning forelock." (Quran 96:15-16)

The uniqueness of fingertips

A unique and precise pattern for every human being

The Quran draws attention specifically to the fingertips when describing Allah’s ability to recreate the human body after death. Today, we know that the patterns found on our fingertips are unique to each individual, including identical twins, and are widely used for identification. The fingertips are also highly sensitive because they contain a large number of nerve endings, allowing us to detect touch, pressure and texture. The Quran highlights the fingertips when speaking about the precision with which the human being can be recreated.

“Yes indeed! We are able to restore even his fingertips.” (Quran 75:4)
